Some of my friends and myself had a discussion on Effects of SEZs. Finally Naren(one of my friends) summarized the points. I hope this would help many of us to ponder upon SEZ.
A unified thought was in support of SEZ’s and more than that no farmer is left outside the consideration. Agriculture is the backbone of economy but we need to develop and design our biceps,wings……….. and not leaving the hair-style,too. Cant live without backbone but cant live only with the backbone.
The economic war is on. We could see the value of money rising in an unimaginable graph. As the India , the union of states, grows we need to see each state develops in the same average. The states like Bihar and orissa are yet to face their revolution in the industry phase. The emergence of WB as an economic or industrial state would uplift the state and thus the country.
But our concerns are much about the Farms and Farmers. Where would they be ended.? Or from where would they start again. The uninteruppted flow of idea from u guys would never stop as it deeply comes from the inward feel. Those that are discussed till now are “zummarised” for our “look back” conveninece. Thanks guys.
Solutions:Minimal level of farm lands could be acquired. The complete space needed could be seen that it doesn’t covers much of farm lands.
Providing more space for agro industries. These could buy the products of left out farms and hence the demand for the agro production is increased.
Proper inspection and disposition methods for the sewages of the indsutry. Conserving the Ganga basin is highly important.
Proper education to the people about the need of SEZ’s.
Proper and intense education to promote the scientific methods of farming. If the productivity of the protected farm lands increase, that may meet the agri needs.
Proper and varied education to those who lost their farms to take some other mean of living. Providing them all necessary inputs. If cattle breeding could be the next possible, the loans could be availed to do so and etc.
A political suggestion:
Despite govt itself acquiring the lands, it could leave it to the industries to convice the people with their own compensations. As those companies are exempted from numerous tax exemptions they would certainly come with a bigger compensation. Govt could say that it would “sign” only if the people are convinced with packagae. Those who are in deadly interest in investing here in SEZ ( there is a big list of exemptions for those companies) would certainly give a convincing package. Govt could politically free from giving the same.
But---------- as any other english movie ends with a way of opening the next part. Here is the question. May just feed some thought before this weekend.
Is SEZ’s are the other form of Colonisation. (colonisation – political /economic hegemony over other country for the economic purposes)Are we looking the undeveloped snaps of those “East India Companies” in 17th century as SEZ’s.????????
The foreign companies are allowed to own our land and such a lot and lot of exemptions for them from the tax and many rules framed in Constitution are given.
Do we have to take a second look on SEZ’s befor things go beyond our hand?????
I would like to thank all my friends who were part of this discussion.
